dan -- thanks, i checked out the tutor mentor site -- a very impressive r=
ange
of partners! how is it all synthesized effectively - from gis/arcview to=

ventana systems - all pretty specialized software! are each of these
contributing corporations recruiting interns from your youth clientele?

i think your example offers a good template - although i have to say that=
 i
don't know chicago too well, but on my few trips there, there is a, shall=
 i
say, fairly strong, positive city "identity" and, even given the set of
problems you share, people feel that, by and large they have a 'stake' in=
 the
life of the city.

whereas, here in washington dc, there exists a TREMENDOUS DISCONNECT betw=
een
this 'capital city' mentality and the rest of the 400,000 of us who see t=
his
as our hometown. those who come here to establish/make their careers don=
't
make lasting investments in the city and, likewise, its a struggle to get=
 the
corporations around here to invest at a significant, concerted level in
projects that don't receive some kind of national attention.

it's almost like, in chicago people will invest for chicago's sake (altho=
ugh i
recognize that it hasn't always been that way and perhaps alot of people =
have
worked hard to encourge such a culture). here, it's just not that way. y=
et.

thanks again,
