The National Puerto Rican Forum seeks qualified candidates for immediate
hire for two positions in the Bronx, NY.

PROGRAM COORDINATOR (full-time)
AVANCE After-School Program
Bronx, New York

The National Puerto Rican Forum, Inc. is a forty-three year old organization
committed to improving the socio-economic conditions of Latinos and other
minorities through career counseling, technology access, employment
training, job placement, Adult Basic Education, and other quality training
programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The AVANCE After-School Program, located on the Monroe Campus in the Bronx,
integrates intensive academic support, tutoring, and homework assistance
with dynamic enrichment and self-enhancement activities.  In Year 1, AVANCE
will serve 150 students, most of whom are recent limited English speaking
immigrants.   This program is funded for two years, but only runs during the
school year.  The Program Coordinator will:

§       Hire, train and supervise part-time staff—instructors, teacher’s aides and
workshops presenters.
§       Schedule and oversee after-school activities.  Coordinator will also serve
as an instructor.
§       Communicate with school staff and foster a productive relationship with
school administration.
§       Organize parent activities in conjunction with the Monroe High Schools.
§       Conduct program orientation to teachers, students and parents.
§       Enroll participants and ensure integration with academic course work.
§       Coordinate weekly interactive workshops/trainings that focus on prevention
of high-risk behaviors and promote personal development (e.g. self-defense,
health, nutrition, violence prevention, etc.).
§       Purchase materials, supplies, and snacks.
§       Identify and select curricular elements.
§       Monitor recordkeeping, data collection and evaluations.
§       Prepare reports to funders and agency.
§       Establish an advisory council to oversee program development and
implementation.

QUALIFICATIONS:  Bachelor’s Degree required (Master’s a plus).  Bilingual
English/Spanish a must.  The ideal candidate will be an experienced educator
or youth worker with two year’s supervisory experience, and excellent
written and oral communication skills.  Solid organizational skills and
ability to work well under pressure important.  Candidates must be creative,
resourceful, flexible and have strong leadership skills.  Occasional
Saturday and/or non-traditional hours required.  Visionaries welcome.

COMPENSATION:  $35-$37,000 plus full benefits for 10 months.

ESL/ESOL INSTRUCTOR
Bronx, New York

Responsibilities:

The Bronx Education Center is intergenerational, culturally responsive, and
relevant to the community.  The English-for-Speakers-of-Other Languages
(ESOL) Instructor reports to the Director of Educational Capacity.

§       Operate multi-level ESOL program at the Bronx Education and Training
Center.
§       Instruct students using various computerized ESOL software and traditional
teaching method methods.
§       Select, prepare and monitor appropriate curricular elements, tasks, and
activities.
§       Monitor and track individual students’ progress.
§       Conduct quarterly pre and post-tests, evaluations and assessments of ESOL
students.
§       Prepare biweekly reports for the Director of Educational Capacity.
§       Collaborate with the Center’s program staff to ensure continuity and
integration with other Adult Basic Education and Technology programs.
§       Conduct multi-level evaluations and refine program as necessary.
§       Not limited to the classroom.  Incorporate outdoor experiences and field
trips for participants.

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will have at least two years experience teaching ESOL
with low literacy immigrant populations and have ESL/ESOL certification.
Master’s in TESOL a plus.  Candidates must have excellent communication and
organizational skills, be computer literate, self-starting and flexible.
Candidates must be team players, creative, resourceful, and be willing to
work non-traditional hours.

Compensation:  $32-$35,000 plus full benefits.
