JOBS AVAILABLE:
The United Teen Equality Center (UTEC), a drop-in youth development center
serving young people ages 13-19 in Lowell, MA, is currently hiring for two
new positions. UTEC is in the process of developing a new multi-media
technology center as a result of a Community Technoogy Center grant recently
awarded to Lowell Telecommunications Corp (LTC). In addition to these two
positions, LTC also has various other technology-related positions available
throughout Lowell. Please refer to their website for detailed job

The Following 2 positions are now available at UTEC:
1. Multi-Media Technology Coordinator
Responsibilities include managing all aspects of UTEC's new multi-media
technology center. This person will be responsible for teaching 1-2
multi-media, project-based classes per week. He/she will be responsible for
organizing drop-in hours open to all teens in the center. The Coordinator
will work with instructors of other programs (i.e. graffiti art & d.j.
mixing) to best utilize and integrate aspects of the technology center into
such weekly activities. He/she will also supervise a VISTA Volunteer
responsible for coordinating a Family Computer Training Program. As part of
this project, a teen and his/her parent/relative will be able to earn their
own computer upon completion of this basic training program. Depending upon
their experience, the Coordinator will also have the opportunity to develop
and supervise a new video technology project, producing PSA's, teen talk
shows and a short documentary. Experience working with teenagers preferred;
Spanish, Cambodian or Vietnamese language a plus.
20-30 hrs week; $13.50-16.00 hr/week. Pending future funding, the goal is
for this to be a full-time, 40 hour position.
<p>2. VISTA Volunteer-Family Computer Training Program
This VISTA Volunteer will be responsible for organizing and supervising all
aspects of the Family Computer Training Program. Based in UTEC's new
multi-media technology center, this program provides an opportunity for
teens and their parents/relatives to enroll together in this 10 week basic
computer training program. Upon completion of this program, each family
will earn their own computer to take home. Depending upon his/her
experience, the VISTA Volunteer may or may not be responsible for teaching
classes within the program. The volunteer will be responsible for building
the capacity of the project, forming partnerships with businesses in the
community to receive used computers to later be recycled. The volunteer
will also continue to provide outreach to these families upon their
completion of the program. Experience working with teenagers helpful;
experience working with family/parental involvement programs a plus;
Spanish, Cambodian or Vietnamese language a plus. VISTA volunteers receive
a monthly stipend of $826 and an educational stipend of $4,750 upon
completion of their one year commitment. * All expenses to CTCNet
conference in San Diego also paid.
