I subscribe to this weekly newsletter sponsored by the Drucker Foundation.
It's titled "Drucker Nonprofit Innovation of the Week" newsletter and it
features nonprofits implementing innovative ideas and programs. This
feature seems particularly relevant to the YouthLearn list (you'll need to
scroll down past all the promotional info to find the article.)
Hope this is useful,
Victoria Bernal

Are you interested in
- helping at-risk young adults benefit from new media jobs?
- collaborating with employers for mutual benefit?
OpNet promotes career development in the new economy for low-
income 18-25 year-olds from economically disadvantaged San
Francisco neighborhoods. OpNet is also helping to meet the growing
demand for skilled new media workers and linking new media
employers to San Francisco's vibrant diverse communities. Founded
in 1997, OpNet is a project of the Local Economic Assistance
Program, Inc (LEAP).
San Francisco, like other cities where the new media industry is
thriving, is experiencing high job growth and earning potential in
high tech job opportunities. Young people have a natural advantage
in competing for these positions. Their early exposure to
computers and video games strengthens their ease and skill in the
new industry. However, not all young people have such an
advantage. Young at-risk adults often experience a digital divide
that separates the technology (and income/wealth) "haves" and
"have-nots."
OpNet has three distinct services. EntryNet provides new media
software and job skills training to low-income 18-25 year-olds.
InternNet places low-income youth into four-month, half-time paid
positions with new media companies. Candidates must possess basic
computer skills and be motivated to build a career in the new
media industry. SupportNet promotes employment retention with job
placement assistance, continuous training, mentors, counseling,
and peer group support.
The discoveries in this program include effective use of:
- Alliances, partnerships
- Fund development
- Performance measurement
