Web Site Development

Esther,

(Note: I'm posting this to the list to let folks know that I am here...
I've heard many requests for web design firms that specialize in nonprofits.
While I'm not a firm, I'm pretty good at the design and have a good handle
on applying technology).

I do web design. I'm a college student, quite honestly trying to make money
to launch my own nonprofit (http://www.docChicago.net) and stay in school.
I've done good work for nonprofits in the past. My specialty is clean,
accessible design. I'm not the flashiest designer, and I tend to work
alone. We can discuss rates -- I can design either for a flat rate for a
project or an hourly rate for piece work. Since you are a nonprofit with a
mission I believe in, I am willing to flex to meet your needs. However, my
rates run from about $15-$40 an hour for production (graphics and design)
and $25-60 an hour for strategy and consultation, site set up, noncontract
post production work, and self sufficiency tutoring (teaching you how to
maintain your website).

I'm always looking for interesting new ways to present information that
makes enriches the information and makes it easily navigable.

On reviewing your website, I see that there is quite a bit of content in
place. Therefore, I would imagine if we were to decide to work together, we
would want to spend several hours reviewing your current content, organizing
that content into a coherent site map, and then considering the next
navigational methods to make that site map into a site. We would also cover
intent for your website, your IT budget. Sites serve many purposes and it
is of great important to clearly decide what you intend from yours.

I apologize for my lack of a portfolio -- www.davideads.com is offline
because of network troubles. However, recent accomplishments include
www.docChicago.net and a redesign of the web interface for educational
software WebAssign (http://www.webassign.net/guide/ - note that I didn't
design this). I also designed www.emeu.org which has been somewhat modified
by the site owners. In 1999, I designed a web site that raised $3000 for
Kosovo relief in about 3 months and made national news publications such as
USA Today, the Christian Science Monitor, and MSNBC.com.

<p>Hello all,

I am in the process of redesigning our web site and was interested to know
if anyone had any good experiences with or could recommend a web
site development firm. I am specifically interested in companies that
either specialize in non-profit or educational institutions. Any leads
would be appreciated. Looking forward to your responses. Thanks.

Esther
