NOVEMBER 1, 2000 is the deadline to apply for the NEW LEADERS ACADEMY, Class
of 2001. IT'S NOT TOO LATE!

Do you have a staff member who is (or are you) an up and coming leader in
your organization?

Could he/she (you) benefit from training in the latest information on
research, policy and practice in youth services to develop his/her (your)
management and leadership skills?

WE NEED YOUR BEST CANDIDATE to apply for this one-year program aimed at
ensuring continuity of effective leadership of youth employment and youth
development programs like yours.

If selected, you or your staff will participate in two one-week training
sessions (one in Winter 2001, one in Fall 2001). New Leaders also select an
issue related to their work for independent study during the year and work
with a group of peers in the program to share resources, ideas and develop
supportive networks. Each New Leader also receives the support and guidance
of a Career Advisor that they select from a pool of experienced youth
professionals.

Some of the benefits of participating in the New Leaders Academy include:

1) increase your knowledge and broaden your vision of the youth
employment/youth development field through 2 one week-long training sessions
led by experts in research, policy and practice (The first training will be
held in D.C., Feb 18-23, 2001. Dates and location for the second training
have not been determined.)

2) Develop a supportive and strategic network with other New Leaders,
professionals from a wide range of youth programs and youth-focused
organizations. Your network will also include the faculty leaders, topical
study group advisors and a personal career advisor who will offer guidance
and resources for meeting your individual goals.

3) Engage in an independent study project such as conduct research on an
issue that interests you and could improve your organization, or implement a
new program or project in your organization or community. Your peers, the
faculty and your career advisor all serve as resources for the development
of your project.
