<br>AMERICORPS MEMBERS (3)
<br>NEW YORK CARES/CITYCARES AMERICORPS PARTNERS IN TECHNOLOGY PROGRAM
<p>New York Cares (www.nycares.org), a nonprofit organization founded in
1987, enables more than 2,000 New Yorkers to
<br>provide hands-on service to hundreds of community based and social
service organizations each month.  The Partners in
<br>Technology Program, which mobilizes volunteers to help schools, communities,
and nonprofit organizations bridge the
<br>Digital Divide (the gap between technology "haves" and "have nots")
is seeking three full time AmeriCorps members (or two
<br>Full-Time and two Part-Time) to be part of a national initiative to
expand this program.
<p><b>Responsibilities</b>
<p>Working with our two Managers of Technology Programs, New York Cares’
three AmeriCorps members will create,
<br>manage, and maintain volunteer-driven projects and initiatives that
address a wide range of Digital Divide issues. Volunteer
<br>projects may include hardware and software assessment and installation;
technology planning; computer-based tutorials for
<br>agency staff and clients; and more.  Specific responsibilities
will include:  providing ongoing support to volunteer Team
<br>Leaders and Partner agencies; recruiting volunteers and Team Leaders;
conducting needs assessments of new and existing
<br>Partner agencies; evaluating ongoing projects and agency relationships;
creating resource materials for Team Leaders,
<br>volunteers, and agency staff; assisting Program Managers with program-related
administrative duties; and, assisting Program
<br>Managers with the development of a Partners in Technology Advisory
Board, and with the ongoing management of the NYC
<br>Technology Resources Consortium. Since New York Cares volunteer projects,
trainings, and events take place before and
<br>after traditional work hours and on weekends, AmeriCorps members will
be asked to set schedules that accommodate these
<br>hours, in order to visit and assess programs.
<p><b> Qualifications</b>
<p>- Interest in and basic knowledge of technology (e.g. using the Internet
and email, basic knowledge of Mac and/or PC
<br>computers and of commonly used software) and technology-related concepts
(e.g. networks, servers, databases)
<br>- High School Diploma (College Degree preferred);
<br>- Ability to use computers in a workplace setting;
<br>- Strong interpersonal communications skills;
<br>- Good writing skills;
<br>- Solid organizational and administrative skills, including an ability
to manage many projects at once
<br>- Ability to work independently and in a team;
<br>- Commitment to community service; (prior volunteer experience helpful)
<br>- Ability to make a one-year commitment to AmeriCorps and New York

<p><b>Stipend</b>
<p>Full-Time AmeriCorps members will receive a stipend of $17,000 per year
(12 months/1,700 hours of service, full health
<br>benefits, and an education award of $4,725 upon completion of the year
of service.  Part-Time Americorps Members will
<br>receive a stipend of $8,500 per year (12 months/900 hours of service),
full health benefits, and an education award of $2,400
<br>upon completion.  All AmeriCorps members will be required to attend
a three-day training in New York City (January 25-27,
<br>2001) and the annual CityCares Conference in Chicago (February 22-25,
2001).  New York Cares will cover all travel-related
<p>costs for the Chicago conference.<b></b>
