Hi Kate:

Not being a student - but having an interest in the digital divide !!
I wonder if the digital divide - means the same thing globally.

I will give you an extremely brief resume !

Our organisation views the digital divide in the following ways:

1. Income related
2. Opportunity related
3. Organisation related
4. Location related

Income and opportunity in many cases are mostly inter related.

Organisation related refers to Internet governance and the issues of
involving - or providing the opportunity to all - to have an appropriate
input to policies that will determine the workings of the internet et
al ( icann - iana etc)

With regard to location - we identify the differences in digital divide
as being a different phenomenon for first and third world countries.

( we are the cctld for East Timor - and have a direct interest in this )

There is an obvious need to address issues such as governance -
and we are working with others to potentially initiate solutions for
this - that can work at an international level !
