Hi,
=20
I think the statue would serve a good purpose. Symbols hold meaning =
and can
evoke power, the Soviet Union is a terrific example. When I was a =
Peace
Corps volunteer in the Republic of Moldova there were many statues and
monuments that depicted the Soviet regime. People revered what these =
images
represented and many were devastated when the statues of Lenin came =
down.
The statue that these children are sending to Bosnia may energize the =
people
and remind them that the tragedy that occured in Bosnia must never =
happen
again. There would be a lot of energy created around this statue, the
stories behind the event, the efforts of the children sending it and =
the
message these children are sending to the children in Bosnia. The =
human
spirit needs to be uplifted and encouraged, I wish these children the =
best
of luck. =20
=20
I agree that money should be sent et al. But, I believe this statue =
would
symbolize hope. Unfortunately, money and supplies that we do send for
humanitarian relief often end up in the wrong hands or on the black =
market.=20
=20
Peace and joy,
=20
Katie.

I recieved the email from Gennifer about her program. I think it is a =
great
thing to do, but instead of building a statue for $50,000 why don't =
they use
the money for more useful and productive things? Like helping the =
people
put their lives back together. Giving them food and shelter to =
survive.
Use the money to re-build the war torn country...not erect a statue =
that is
going to take thousands of dollars to make, not to mention shipping it =
over
there. Their hearts seem to be in the right place...(trying to make a
difference), but their project doesn't seem to be a very effective way.

Just a thought! ~Angela~=20
