Gerylee,
I encourage you to take a look at what the Chicago Bar Association/Chicago Bar Foundation is doing to help tutor/mentor programs in Chicago.
Since 1994 they have worked in partnership with the Tutor/Mentor Connection to raise visibility, recruit volunteers, and raise general operating dollars for on-going, one-on-one tutor/mentor programs. Last November the CBA/CBF Benefit attracted more than 1100 guests, and raised more than $50,000 which will be awared to more than 30 tutor/mentor programs during the May 17/18, 2001 Tutor/Mentor Leadership Conference.
It would be great if the American Bar Association were to adopt th is as one of their strategies. Bar Associations in communities all over America could be working to help build the capacity of tutor/mentor programs, following the example set by the Chicago Bar Association/Foundation.
If you were to take this on as your personal advoccy, it would enable you to open doors at many legal firms. Great way to build a career
