I think the camera Katharine mentions is the Polaroid izone.  You can buy
them at Amazon for about $20.

year old neice one for Christmas.  They're great!  You could also just put
the photos on cardboard or heavy paper, write the necessary info and use
contact paper instead of a laminator.  It depends on how long you need the
IDs to last -- a year, more than a year, etc.
