As a way to say hello, and thank you all for sharing; i've learned a lot and
have found Youth Learn to be a GREAT resource in our efforts to build the
capacity of The People here. I've also found some very helpful web sites
through the listserv connection.
I live and work in a rural, sparsely populated, economically depressed
African American community in the South.
We recently set up a computer lab through generous donations and a LOT of
work. Currently we offer classes to adults and are working to establish an
out of school enrichment program for youth. Our efforts are about
technology but also about critical thinking (inquiry based teaching
methods), values clarification, goal setting, reading (daily sharing of
short stories, poems, etc.), writing (journaling), and of course, hands on
computer training.
Thanks for all you all do to improve the quality of life for others.
