We wish to adopt written guidelines for staff and volunteers on "do's =
and
don'ts" of working with kids. We want to make sure that the adults are
appropriate with the kids. Does anyone have samples of policies they =
can
share? Many thanks.

Gosh Lillie --
Thank you for such a positive message. You truly made our day!!
In the past few days, more than 25 of you have joined YouthLearn. We =
welcome
your insights and questions and stories. Your energy and new =
perspective
help keep all of us on our toes and excited about our work!
I think you'll find that the members of this list are some of the most
generous anywhere. Many of you have been with YouthLearn since it first
started at the end of last June. I know I learn something new from you =
every
day.
It's really helpful to hear what all of you are working on. We all =
approach
the issue of learning with technology from such different angles. You =
never
know when someone else is grappling with the same issue.
Have a great day!
Pam

As a way to say hello, and thank you all for sharing; i've learned a =
lot and
have found Youth Learn to be a GREAT resource in our efforts to build =
the
capacity of The People here. I've also found some very helpful web =
sites
through the listserv connection.
I live and work in a rural, sparsely populated, economically depressed
African American community in the South.
We recently set up a computer lab through generous donations and a LOT =
of
work. Currently we offer classes to adults and are working to =
establish an
out of school enrichment program for youth. Our efforts are about
technology but also about critical thinking (inquiry based teaching
methods), values clarification, goal setting, reading (daily sharing of
short stories, poems, etc.), writing (journaling), and of course, hands =
on
computer training.
Thanks for all you all do to improve the quality of life for others.
