The Bass Museum of Art invites you to the opening of the niw Art Lab, =
the first community-access multimedia center in Miami Beach.

At this singular event, you can get a preview of niw Art Lab resources =
and classes, eat ice cream, try out the new Macintosh G4 Powerbooks, =
listen to music, participate in mini-workshops, witness a special guest =
appearance by mariachis, mingle, and finally, be among the first to =
register to use the lab during drop-in Open Studio hours --- free for =
Miami Beach residents, and $10 yearly for others.

The niw Art Lab was founded as part of new information workshop (niw), a =
new initiative at the Bass created to promote artmaking, education and =
exchange in the community by using new media and communication =
technologies as tools. It is funded by grants from the John S. and James =
L. Knight Foundation, the Miami-Dade County Department of Cultural =
Affairs, and Friends of the Bass Museum, Inc.

new information workshop (niw) is an umbrella project that includes the =
niw Art Lab; a Media Research Center in the museum that offers visitors =
a portal to extensive online information about the museum's collections, =
exhibitions and visual arts in general; a redeveloped website set to =
launch in May; the North Beach/Homestead Project, which will link =
artists and high school students through a collaborative web-based =
documentary project; and niw Residents, a new media artists-in-residence =
program to begin in 2002.=20
