Hi Folks,

Not only is the Craigslist.com online community <http://www.craigslist.org>
a finalist for a Community Webby Award
<http://www.webbyawards.com/nominees/index.html#community>; Craig Newmark
and partner in Rick Karp, President of the very community conscious Cole
Hardware in Cole Valley, San Francisco, <http://www.colehardware.com> have
struck up a fruitful endeavor... This partnership has created a wonderful
pilot program that is actively providing vital computer equipment for local
San Francisco & US nationally based schools and non-profit organizations.

This is all happening right now through the innovative "wishlist" program
<http://wishlist.craigslist.org/>. Some of us may have already heard about
this program, this serves as a reminder and celebration for craigslists'
status with the Webbys as one of the best online communities!

Please spread the word to your colleagues, your local schools, and your
neighborhood CTC's. So far there are approx 350 sign ups, and over $15,00=
0
worth of needed supplies have been donated to classrooms and nonprofits all
over the country. Please consider what you can do to add to the resources.
This will help our communities to obtain what they need via the "wishlist"
in the form of various computer equipment required to ensure a level playin=
g
field for all.

"If you're a teacher or staff at a school or nonprofit:

* Create a wishlist: You'll need to supply contact information and the ta=
x
ID # of your school or organization. Then you can browse the Cole Hardware=AE
catalog and click on the merchandise you need.

* All wishlist subscribers have access to modify your list, making adds o=
r
changes anytime via <http://wishlist.craigslist.org/>.

If you want to contribute by supporting this effort:

Choose a school or nonprofit or list cities with active "wishlists", or fin=
d
one at random from the list. From their "wishlist", click on the products
you want to buy. When you're finished, you'll purchase them with your credi=
t
card. A thank you note (which will also serve as a tax receipt) will be
emailed to you. Cole Hardware=AE is extending a 10% discount to all
contributors in order to make your donations even more effective!

and/or

If you have a site or know of a website that could offer up resource
webspace where the "wishlist" can be freely advertised - spread the word ou=
t
and about; within your various list-servs, online communities, etc etc.
We're all for the progressive building of a collective consciousness, towar=
d
the success of the wishlist program"

<p>As a side note, Cole Hardware offers other community services, be sure to
check out their website. And, the Craigslist.com team are integrating web
hosting to qualified non-profits and classrooms. Contact them directly wit=
h
questions. Be sure that they haven't announced this as a feature of
Craigslist.com's community services. Craigslist.com may not be en masse
offering web hosting just yet - even tho they do indeed host a few sites ou=
t
and about presently. Keep a look out for the craigslist web-ring! I'm jus=
t
letting the kat outta the bag so y'all can see what impact folks are making
and planning - indeed a powerful example of communities coming together fo=
r
a common cause...! In fact, they have graciously offered to host our own
website at MentorGirls.org this summer. A very exciting prospect for my
organization as we get more web sophisticated! :) woo!

Thanks to Craig Newmark, Founder of CraigsList and Rick Karp, President of
Cole Hardware - their vision is an inspiration to us all! Pulling together
such a "wishlist" program for our local San Francisco and across country
communities, providing such digital opportunity is phenomenal... Certainly
this kind of dedication is what makes our San Francisco Bay Area peoples so
very special.

Cheers,

Leah Dawn
