Pam, Thanks for the update. Here's another piece of information for those involved with tutoring/mentoring at-risk youth.

15th Tutor/Mentor Leadership Conference
Thursday, May 17th and Friday, May 18th, 2001

More than 200 leaders of tutoring, mentoring and school-to-work programs, educators, volunteers, business leaders
and others are expected to attend and host exhibit booths at the May 2001 Tutor/Mentor Leadership Conference,
which will be held in Chicago at the Holiday Inn Mart Plaza.

The Tutor/Mentor Leadership Conference is a two-day event that will encompass workshops, exhibit booths, and a
Luncheon with keynote speaker; Arron Wendell, Miss Missouri 2000. A brief description of the workshops to be
offered are posted at www.tutormentorconnection.org.

The Tutor/Mentor Conference is intended to help build the quality and capacity of neighborhood tutoring, mentoring
and career preparation programs where adult and youth mentors can serve as coaches, teachers, friends and guides to
thousands of at risk children. The goal of the conference is to help make comprehensive nonschool tutor/mentor
programs more available in every neighborhood where kids live in risk due to poverty, violence and poor health access.

The Conference is sponsored by the Cabrini Connections Tutor/Mentor Connection, which has been leading actions to
build capacity and quality in Chicaoland Tutor/Mentor programs since 1994. Leaders of more than two dozen
Chicago-based tutor/mentor programs, colleges and community agencies volunteer time to help organize the
conferences and to serve as speakers and trainers.

The Conference is part of a year-round sequence of events that starts with a citywide Tutor/Mentor Volunteer
Recruitment Campaign held in August and September as school is starting and programs throughout the area are
looking for help in recruiting volunteers. On-line eGroups are hosted by the T/MC so leaders of programs
throughout the country can participate in the planning of these events.

It's not too late to register for the May Conference, or get connected for future T/MC events. The next Tutor/Mentor
Leadership Conference will be held in November 2002. Sponsor information can be found at
www.tutormentorconference.bigstep.com

We hope to hear from you.
