Do you know about this site? It looks like a great way to get
kids in after-school and out-of-school programs to read. Here's
some information from the website...

Book Adventure
http://www.bookadventure.org
Book Adventure aims to motivate kids to read. Each child (grades
K-8) chooses which books he or she plans to read from a
recommended list of 5,400 books. After the kids read a book, they
take an online multiple choice quiz that tests their
comprehension. The kids earn reading points they can then trade
in for prizes (such as a TCBY kids' cone, Highlights magazine,
etc.).
The site also gives parents and teachers control (if you wish)
over the books and prizes kids can choose from. You can also log
on to monitor students' progress.
The website is a free resource created by the nonprofit Book
Adventure Foundation. Educational advisors to the site include
the International Reading Association, Reading is Fundamental,
National Center for Family Literacy, and many others.
Next week (Oct 1-7) the site is holding a special Book Adventure
Week as an added incentive to get kids to read. Houghton Mifflin
will donate one book to a school library for every child who
registers. Each student who registers also will earn 100 points.
Currently registered kids can refer friends and earn up to 200
extra points.
Book Adventure has over 550,000 registered users and students
have taken more than 2.6 million quizzes to earn prizes since its
creation in 1999.
