Don't Recreate the Wheel:
For Youth Development Programming, PEPNet Can Help

PEPNet, the "Promising and Effective Practices Network", a project of the
National Youth Employment Coalition, has spent the past six years gathering
and distilling information about effective youth programming. Whether you
are a youth program practitioner, a funder, technical assistance provider,
policy maker, or other youth professional, PEPNet has resources that can
help you to build a better system of youth employment and youth development
programming.

PEPNet is currently seeking youth programs, dedicated to continuous
improvement, to use our 2002 Self Assessment and PEPNet Application.
PEPNet's free tools can help a youth program to understand strengths and
weaknesses, plan for programmatic improvements, and gain national
recognition for effectiveness.

Here's how it works:

Visit www.nyec.org/pepnet to learn about the PEPNet Improvement Process and
the PEPNet Self Assessment. The self assessment requires a youth program
to take a good hard look at strengths and weaknesses - assets and
liabilities. After completing the assessment, programs send in a simple
form to gain the designation of PEPNet Builder, the first step toward
recognition as a PEPNet Awardee.

We also encourage programs to complete a PEPNet Application for Recognition
(due April 18, 2002). Programs that meet the majority of the criteria on
the PEPNet Application will gain recognition as a PEPNet Awardee. Awardees
state that PEPNet Recognition:

-brings national press coverage,
-boosts staff morale,
-helps secure funding,
-creates an impetus for program improvement, and
-leads to staff empowerment through a network of youth programs committed
to quality programming and continuous improvement.

PEPNet is not only for Programs.

All youth professionals can tap into PEPNet to build quality youth
programming. Learn how WIA entities, funders, technical assistance
providers, Youth Councils, and others are using PEPNet as a resource. More
than just a set of tools for program improvement, PEPNet is a resource for
instilling quality in the field of youth employment and
youth development.

Visit www.nyec.org/pepnet to learn more about PEPNet and to download a free
copy of the PEPNet Self Assessment or the PEPNet Application. Or, request
a free hard copy by sending a fax request to (202) 659-0399 or pm at nyec.org.
