It's great to see so many new members to the YouthLearn list!
The message below was sent by proy at dalton.k12.ga.us. I envy your work --
this must be a fascinating age to watch students learn.
Since you'll be seeing the kids fairly frequently afterschool, have you
thought of involving them in a project learning experience that spans
several sessions with you? There's lots of information on YouthLearn about
project-based learning (
http://youthlearn.edc.org/learning/activities/keys.html).
And here are some sites with fun project ideas for grades 1-3, many of
which involve using the computer:
* Project Approach website http://www.project-approach.com/
* Global SchoolHouse Project Registry: http://www.globalschoolhouse.org/pr/
* Tooth-Tally Project: http://wilburnes.wcpss.net/toothtally/tooth02.html
* The Great Egg Roll Project: http://www.crossroadsschool.org/egg_roll.htm
Best wishes!
Pam

I stumbled across this site, thank goodness. I am working on my Ed.S.
degree in educational technology, and am developing a series of lessons
using laptop computers with our after school students. I plan to spend
about an hour, maybe longer, three days a week with students in grades 2
and 3. Later, I may add the younger ones. I would love to hear from
anyone with great ideas.

YouthLearn ( http://www.youthlearn.org ) brings together youth
professionals to share information on using technology to create
exciting learning environments. YouthLearn was created by the
Morino Institute ( http://www.morino.org ) and is now an Initiative
at Education Development Center ( http://www.edc.org ). We hope
this list assists you in your efforts to make a difference in the
lives and potential of young people.
