Position Description
Cornell Cooperative Extension Association of Tompkins County
Working Title: 4-H Youth Development Program Leader
Office Location: 615 Willow Ave., Ithaca, NY 14850
Supervisor: Executive Director
General Responsibilities:
Responsible for providing in-depth program leadership for the planning,
implementation and evaluation of the 4-H Youth Development Program for
Cornell Cooperative Extension of Tompkins County. Participate as an active
member of the association program management team in developing a
well-integrated overall Association educational effort. Provide leadership
and coordination and effectively manage volunteer personnel including 4-H
club leaders, short-term volunteers, teen leaders, middle management
volunteers, and program development committees. (Supporting club, school,
after school, camp and special interest delivery modes). Responsible for
effective management of resources available to the 4-H Youth Development
program, and for assuring that accountability and affirmative action
requirements are met within the 4-H Youth Development program. Represent
the association before the public, community leaders, government officials
and Cornell University. Highly visible position to disseminate and
encourage the application of accepted extension programs.
Provide initiative in the development and implementation of program
responsibilities, with the guidance of the Executive Director, and
association board and program committees. As 4-H Program Team Leader,
coordinate association programs or specialized components of program effort
within the association or multi-association teams.
Assist in identifying and developing new funding sources, grants,
contracts, marketing strategies and routine reporting analysis. Coordinate
staff team effort for 4-H youth development programs that involve numerous
youth and adult audiences.
Degree and Experience Required:
Masters degree required. Areas of concentration (graduate or undergraduate)
must include education, human development or related area. Coursework in
youth development, educational methods, program development, volunteer
management, management or organizational development is highly desirable.
At least four years of progressively responsible administrative and/or
youth development education experience in Cooperative Extension, or other
youth development organization or related field. Demonstrated leadership
and managerial abilities. Experience in personnel, fiscal, fund raising and
non -profit program management is highly preferred.
Starting Salary: $42,500
