ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT
YMCA Nature & Community Center, in beautiful McClellanville SC, announces
the availability of scholarships for the 2002 summer camp season. Academic
scholarships are made possible through the Charley Lovingood Scholarship
Fund. This fund was established in memory of Charley Lovingood, a local
student and avid fan of computers and technology. The amount of each
scholarship awarded is $200.00 for a weeklong residential camp session.
Campers are responsible the balance of $60. Camp sessions are divided by
age, 7-12 year old Nature Camp and 13-17 year old Earth Leadership
Institute.
Scholarships are awarded on a first come first serve basis, to those who
successfully complete the application process. As there are only a few
scholarships available for each session, this is a very competitive
scholarship. Last year applications were received and accepted from
outside the state of South Carolina.
ELIGIBILITY
Any student age 7-17 is eligible for an Academic Scholarship. Priority is
given to those students with a specific interest in computers and
technology.
The YMCA Summer Camp program utilizes its Computer Lab for summer camp
activities, including a camper newsletter, nature activities and an
Internet based cultural program GLOBALe.
APPLICATION PROCESS
After completing the Academic Scholarship Application and General
Application, the forms and an accompanying letter of recommendation must be
turned in to the YMCA. An educator, such as the youth's teacher or
principal, must write the letter of recommendation. The recommendation
letter must clearly state why the child is a strong candidate for a Charley
Lovingood scholarship. Call 843-887-4195 or email ymcawoodruff at aol.com for
an application. Forms may be dropped off at the YMCA office in
McClellanville or mailed to the YMCA at 1413 Highway 45 McClellanville, SC
