COLLEGE TOUR

i have taken several groups of middle and high school students on college
tours over the past five years. we are lucky here in philadelphia to have
many schools in and near the city, so all of our trips have been day trips.
what i have found to be most helpful in arranging a tour is to first,
follow protocol and contact the admissions office. then, find out if there
are any student groups on campus who will assist. our best tours have
included a mix of school staff and current students as facilitators/tour
guides. usually, greeks (kappas, deltas, other fraternities and sororities)
will even sponsor the group and provide lunch, along with a realistic view
of what college life is like. also, the students seem to relate well to
undergraduates who are closer in age to them. we have had students remain
in touch with these college "mentors" afterwards.
