In an effort to break down the digital divide, Stetson University and The
Institute for the Study of Digital Inclusion has launched an initiative we
call the Make It Take It Program. Our goal is to provide Junior and Senior
High School students with access to the technology, and to empower them
with the knowledge to effectively use these tools to support their
educational endeavors.
As most of you are aware, funding is a constant challenge for programs such
as ours. As we continue to expand and move towards becoming more of a CTC
(Community Technology Center) based program we are able to also expand upon
our goals. Along with this expansion comes the need for further assessment
and follow up. We would like to be able to tap into the knowledge that some
of you posses in this area. We are looking for recommendations that will
aid us in the expansion of our current program assessment and follow up as
we move into areas such as ESOL and adult education. We hope that this will
insure its successful expansion into other counties, sates and even
countries. Assessment that provides measurable results will be the basis
for many of the grant opportunities that are currently available. We are
asking you to help us by sharing what you have found to be helpful in this
area. In addition, the long-term result of data collection and analysis
will lead to the creation of a base of scientific data that will help
develop public policy and introduce legislation that will have profoundly
positive effects on children, their families, and underserved communities.
I look forward to your replies and our continued dialogue as we work
towards our common goals together.
