Dear Colleague,
Greetings! I hope this letter finds you well and enjoying the summer
season. I am writing to ask your assistance in finding an ideal Executive
Director for the Progressive Technology Project (PTP). Among a number of
factors, we are especially looking for candidates who have a strong
foundation in grassroots organizing, an understanding of technology use
related to organizing and experience raising large foundation grants.
Founded in 1999, PTP seeks to strengthen community-based social change
efforts and increase public participation by under-represented communities
by exploring and supporting the effective use of information technology.
With an annual budget of $1 million, PTP provides capacity building
technical assistance and grant making to assist grassroots groups in the
use of information technology to strengthen their social change efforts.
After three years in existence, PTP finds itself poised to begin a new
period, similar to that of a start up organization. Having recently
completed a strategic plan to help shape its work over the next three
years, we are seeking an Executive Director who can build on these ideas
and put together a staff team that translates these strategies into a
strong set of programs carried out by a highly effective staff. With the
support and approval of the board, PTP has put in place a transition and
organizational development strategy and process that will help PTP prepare
for its next stage of existence.
Currently based in Washington, D.C., PTP is open to relocating its office
to the location of the new Executive Director based on criteria such as:
our ability to fill key PTP staff positions from the labor pool in the
area, being near potential PTP funding and resource opportunities, being
close to grassroots community organizing efforts that share PTP's values
and being close to exciting and innovative technology efforts.
We're asking interested applicants to submit all requested materials
(cover letter addressing interest in and hopes for PTP, resume, list of 4
work references, and fundraising proposal or resource development, &
writing sample) by Tuesday, August 6, 2002 at 5 pm EST (received in our
office, not postmarked). Early submission is highly encouraged.
We would like your help in distributing the attached job announcement to
people you think will be interested. If you or anyone you know is
interested, please contact me directly at: 406-556-7246. Thank you in
advance for your support and help.
Sincerely,
Pamela Chiang
PTP Interim Executive Director
