Hi, I am the Ex. Dir. of a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing
educational services to children and youth within two public housing
developments in the communities of Boston. Recently, all funding for youth
programming in public housing was eliminated form the City of Boston
budget. We were able to receive a contract from the Safe Futures program
to operate a summer program which was very successful. However, sadly we
are currently closed because of no additional funding to support services
for the schhol year.
We have developed a strategic plan with an appropriate budget which we hope
to receive funding (any ideas who to float this proposal to?). In addition
we have identified a location that is ideal for the population that we
serve. Our current location within the housing development will not pass
the various inspections required by the State regulatory agency and thus,
we will be forced to relocate. Does anyone know of any agencies, in
Massachusettes or nationally, that support capital funding needs and offer
assistance in securing funds for rehabilitation of a
proposed site? We served over 65 youths in our summer program and now are
unable to continue the after school programming for the coming school year.
We enjoy several collaborations with agencies that offered supplemental
services at our site and now will lose their funding for federal programs
if our doors close. I realize that all providers of out of school time
services are challenged by obstacles to success. I hope that your
experiences will assist us in identifying resources that will aid us in
keeping at risk children off the streets. Thank you for your time and
consideration...David
