Hello All-
I wanted to share some exciting news with you! I'm heading out for the
Democratic Republic of Congo, where YouthLearn will be involved in training
educators as they begin to use a new Community Learning Resource Center
currently under construction. Our work is part of a project funded by
USAID, led here at EDC by our DC-based Multichannel Learning Center. We
are currently in the planning stages of the work, and I have the rare
opportunity to visit the Vanga Mission (about 200 miles outside of
Kinshasa) for two weeks! I will be working with a team to assess what
types of trainings and educational programs might be relevant for this
community. I am quite excited about meeting and talking with the
community, and seeing how technology and our YouthLearn methods might help
to supplement their current system of education.
We hope to share with you much of our work in Vanga in the coming months.
As we develop the learning modules, we are looking for educational
resources, curriculum, and other activities appropriate for the region.
DRC is a predominantly French-speaking country, so we're particularly
interested in any tools you've found useful in that language. Wendy
Rivenburgh discovered the following directory of Canadian educational
websites, some of which are presented in both French and English:
http://www.oise.utoronto.ca/~mpress/eduweb/canada.html
Do let us know if you've found any of these sites useful. Are there other
sites you might recommend? We'd appreciate any resources or guidance you
can offer!
I look forward to reporting back to you about my experiences in the Congo
soon.
A bientot!
-Monica
