Hi,
I have just started working with video at my school. I would recommend
looking at Apple's digital video page at
http://www.apple.com/education/dv/ for some examples.

I have worked with an iBook (about $1500) and a Canon digital camcorder
(about $500) to do most of my work. Let me know if I can offer any more
information that might be helpful.
