If you are interested in finding funding for an after-school program for
children with disabilities, there are several sources you may wish to
consider. (1) your county department of Children, Youth and Families
services receive Community Service Block Grant funds from the Federal
Government's Department of Health, which includes the National Institute
of Health. Also, under the children with disabilities act money is set a
side to fund such programs. To learn more about this funding stream
contact your State Department of Education and your state advocacy groups
who advocate on behalf of children with disabilities. (2) check out your
local foundations and national foundations such as the Heinz foundation
and a big funder of childrens' after-school initiative programs here in
Pittsburgh is the Grable foundation, which may make awards out of state.
It can hurt to contact them because your intent is novel in the sense that
I don't hear about too many projects such as the one you are proposing to
do. Good Luck.
