Best Practices other than Project/Inquiry Based?

Folks-

I am trying to identify the major approaches or programs in this field.  I 
am wondering if there are respected approaches other than the 
inquiry-based/project oriented model (i.e. the YouthLearn.Org approach). 
It seems to me that most good after school tech programs use project-based 
learning as the core of their program.

I have also identified the 5th Dimension Program 
(http://129.171.53.1/blantonw/5dClhse/clearingh1.html) - an activity system that mixes the play, education, peer interaction, 
and affiliation.

Are there any other major schools of thought for after-school tech 
programming?

If project-based learning is the prevailing approach, what are the major 
threads or sub-trends within it?
