Are your kids SUPER-excited by math? Do your kids need help with math but 
you're not sure how to start?

Thirteen/WNET New York (PBS) can help with a fantastic opportunity to do 
math CYBERCHASE style through a partnership project supporting a total of 
10 after-school sites as participating CYBERCHASEoutreach sites. 

What is CYBERCHASE?

CYBERCHASE is a popular daily children's animated math adventure TV/web 
series broadcasting every weekday on your local PBS station. (Check local 
PBS TV listings for broadcast times, or go online 
atwww.pbskids.org/cyberchase.) The series is set in cyberspace, where a 
young team of heroes thwart the villains using their brainpower. The 
series energizes kids (ages 6-11) with math power! Kids learn that math is 
fun, math is about problem solving, and, wow, does it come in handy! 
Cyberchase is produced by Thirteen/WNETNew York and Nelvana.

A FUN WAY TO GET YOUR KIDS EXCITED ABOUT MATH!

WHAT'S THE DEAL?

Thirteen/WNET New York is looking for 10After-School programs to 
participate as sites for our CYBERCHASE national outreach initiative.CYBERCHASEis an animated television adventure series and multimedia 
project for children ages 6-11 thatbroadcasts everyweekdayon PBS Kids! 
(Check local PBS TV listings for broadcast times.) The hit animated show 
is about a team of kids on daring missions in Cyberspace, who have to use 
MATH and BRAIN POWER to save the day.  Brain Power Rules! 

CYBERCHASE helps kids discover that math is fun and something we 
experience, not just in school, but all around us in their everyday lives. 
We want to help you engage children in hands-on mathematics and problem 
solving games and activities.  We will show you how to use these math 
experiences with kids to build their confidence and understanding, and to 
further the learning experience with fun activities and workshop materials 
that you can use at your after-school centers.

WHAT DO YOU GET FOR PARTICIPATING?

        q       A day of training using CYBERCHASE materials,detailing how to run your own 
workshops;
        q       Grant amount: $2,000 
        q       Materials to support the workshops you will run at your site, including:

        ·       One CYBERCHASE Outreach Toolkit (contains workshop modules, program 
information, press release templates, certificate template, etc); 
        ·       One set of theCYBERCHASE Workshops-In-A-Box (each box contains activities, 
instruction sheets, hands-on materials, and VHS copies of episodes.)
        ·       *25 CYBERCHASE posters;
        ·       *25 CYBERCHASE kids' magazines;
        ·       *25CYBERCHASE At-Home kits; in English and/or in Spanish - enough to provide 
each child participating in the workshops with the version they need.
        ·       *5 Teacher Guides. 
(*NOTE: Additional materials available upon request while supplies last.)
        q       Assistance with connecting with local PBS stations, if required. 
        q       Ongoing support from CYBERCHASEstaff.
        q       Grant award sites selection announcement will be made on our around August 
22nd. 

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO IN ORDER TO PARTICIPATE?

All organizations/sites selected are required, and must agree to:

        q       Participate in training at Thirteen/WNET in New York City onSeptember 13th 
and 14th. (Thirteen/WNET will cover the costs of the hotel for 2 nights, 
local travel and will provide breakfast and lunch on the days of the 
training. Sites will be responsible for their own airfare, meals outside 
the training sessions and any other costs.) 
        q       Appoint one staff member as the local coordinator/implementer of the 
project. This person should attend the training; 
        q       Educate and familiarize participating staff with the CYBERCHASE 
materialsand training you will receive;
        q       Utilizing providedWorkshops-In-A-Box activities and other CYBERCHASE 
materials, perform a minimum of four (4)CYBERCHASE workshops for kids 
September 2003 and April 2004.
        q       Familiarize your staff and kids with CYBERCHASE andits web-site by using 
the following model:

        ·       Identify and secure an appropriate space for the sessions/workshops; 
        ·       Secure appropriate equipment for the sessions/workshops, including a 
TV/VCR and a computer with internet access;
        q       Promote CYBERCHASEto your communities via newsletters, flyers, Web sites, 
advisory boards, local school and related organizations. 
        q       Distribute CYBERCHASE materials to parents, and other caregivers.
        q       Reach out to local PBS station for partnership and promotional 
opportunities. 
        q       Submit a brief one-page progress report due by January 15, 2004;
        q       Submit a final Site Report on all activities toCYBERCHASEpostmarked no 
later than May 15, 2003, which includes the following:

        ·       An accounting and detailed description of how the materials were used 
and/or distributed and how the workshops were implemented;
        ·       Copies of all Web, print and promotional materials and correspondence;
        ·       Copies of any photos, parent letters/quote, local press clippings or 
relevant information regarding the CYBERCHASE program. 
        q       Coordinator will be available for final debriefing group conference call.

program and its components. 
        6)      Describe how you will target and publicize the Cyberchase project. Provide 
examples of past outreach efforts if possible. 
        7)      Provide written verification that the coordinator will attend training at 
Thirteen/WNET in New York City on September 13th & 14th as set forth in 
the participation criteria.
