I don't know of any specific web sites, but the kids that access my
computer center will be creating picture frame ornaments for their
families from CDs and creating their own christmas cards. We also put out
recyclable computer parts and glue and glitter and let the kids have at
them to create theit christmas ornaments. The kids love doing that type
of stuff and it isn't limited by age or sex. Also, we made clocks out of
CD rom and HArd Drive Circuit boards and the physical hard drive disk.
They are very easy to make and only take a few minutes.

If you have any questions feel free to email me at junghart2002 at aol.com

We did a greeting card project one year where the youth did digital photos
of their family and then made them into greeting cards. They could add
sayings, more art, etc. We actually did this at an event with families and
they walked away with a print-out and a disk with their cards on it. It
could certainly be done without the families there though.

A simple computer project that elementary students enjoy is to make a
slide show using the Kid Pix program. I have used the theme of the toy
that came to life under the Christmas tree. The students enjoy creating
their first scene, saving the file, and then making minor changes to it.
By the time they complete their project they might have 30 slides for a
short slide show, but the feeling of accomplishment when they see their
"movie" is great. I have also used the idea of using Kid Pix with a
Christmas song. We like the song of Mary, Did You Know by Kenny Rogers.
The students love to draw a scene that goes with the song and then set all
of their works of art to the music and play it for all to see. It is
amazing to see how detailed they can be and where their creative minds
lead them.
