Greetings from Gibbon, MN once again!
I just wanted to follow up and take this opportunity to thank everybody
that has shown interest in our KGFW-TV (Kids of Gibbon-Fairfax-Winthrop
Schools) after school program. We have received responses from all over
the world (Hawaii, West Indies, New York, Minneapolis, etc.) If I have
not replied to you personally I apologize since the holidays have been
very busy. I do plan on doing so. If you do not remember what KGFW-TV is
about, here is another description of the dream we have conjured up:
- 4th grade students (and myself) brainstorm to come up with a list of
people they would like to interview (anybody... parents, school staff,
athletes, local/state/national/global community members, etc.).
- I work on contacting the people on the list.
- Students create various questions to ask show guests (I also throw some
in there).
- I set up interview times and sometimes drive the kids to where the
interview will be conducted with the school van and a parent volunteer.
- The students run the microphone and cameras during the interviews.
- I take the raw footage and through the use of Adobe video editing
software, I create 1/2 hour to 1 hour semi-professional productions to air
on our local public access channel (I am also the coordinator for the
public access channel so it works out really nice).
- The shows are also available for people in the community to check out at
our local public libraries. We will also be putting the shows onto DVD
now too through a grant from our local cable television commission
committee.
Lot's of run around, lots of networking, and lots of teamwork. We've
honestly interviewed multitudes of people ranging from professional
athletes, television/radio personalities, political figures, military
veterans/members, and even a billionaire. We are very proud of our show
and would be honored to have you and yours as a part of it.
The steps we would take to get you and yours involved would be:
- Organize/storyboard your part of the television production via
e-mail/telephone/postal service (your environment, local area, interviews
with locals, etc.).
- Make sure that you have the necessary devices to complete your end of
the production (MiniDV camcorder w/ 1/8" microphone jack, microphone w/
1/8" plug for camera jack, MiniDV tapes).
- Have you record your subject/topic for your part of the production
(totally up to you how you would go about this... FYI - key is to have a
steady hand with the camera).
- Send me the actual video tape (preferably MiniDV format) so that I can
edit it into the show (example-> KGFW-TV... from the West Indies!).
- Wait for us to finish the final product, which will then enable me to
send it back to you in the mail.
Whew! So many ideas, so many opportunities. Thanks again!
Happy New Year!
Wade
