Thirteen-Year Old Put the Woman Back in Politics, and Wins National Turn
Beauty Inside Out 2004 Poster Contest

Mind on the Media is proud to announce the winners of this year's national
Turn Beauty Inside Out Poster Contest. This year's winners show great
amounts of creativity and thought in their pieces.

Congratulations to: Grand Prize winner Angelique de la Cruz, 13 years
old, Makati City, Philippines. She says, "Become a Woman Whose Opinions
Matter Most; Become a Woman in Politics."

The 2004 "Turn Beauty Inside Out" (TBIO) campaign is to get girls and
women involved in politics and become aware of the opportunities available
to them. Mind on the Media sponsored the national poster contest as an
opportunity for student's ages 8-16 to artistically respond to the idea of
women and girls getting involved and becoming leaders. With over 100's of
entries nationwide, the decisions were difficult, as each piece presented
a strong message and inventive way to portray it.

The Grand Prize winner will join New Moon: the Magazine for Girls and
Their Dreams 25 "Beautiful Girls" contest winners, along with the
editorial board of the magazine and 200 other girls, in Washington DC on
May 1-3, 2004, to promote positive media messages of women in politics.
This kick-off leadership event is the fourth annual international
celebration of media images that promote healthy behavior and attitudes
for girls and boys. The activities will be centered on the theme of
education and leadership.

TBIO grew out of the 25 Beautiful Girls issue of New Moon Magazine as
girls voiced their opinions, needing a definition of beauty that fits them
best. Beauty not defined by the shape of their bodies, but by the content
of their hearts and minds. Each year New Moon celebrates girls who
recognize their inner beauty. New Moon is an award-winning,
international, bi-monthly publication edited by and for girls ages 8-14.

Congratulations and cash prizes were also awarded to:
1st place Elizabeth Sabol-Jones, 12 years old, Chicago, IL.
2nd Prize Raeann Stines, 12 years old, Denver, CO.

Available for Interviews: Interviews can be arranged with winners of the
poster contest, Nancy Gruver, founder of New Moon and members of the Girls
Editorial Board. These girls, ages 8-14, selected the "25 Beautiful
Girls"
and they also edit every issue of New Moon. Also available for interview
is Caroline Ticarro-Parker, Executive Director of Mind on the Media, at
952.210.1625.

Copies of the winning poster are available upon request.
