JOB ANNOUNCEMENT: PROGRAM COORDINATOR, EXPLORING LEADERSHIP YOUTH PROGRAM
Independent Contractor, Seasonal Position, Reports to Youth Programs
Manager, 2-3 Positions Available
CORO NORTHERN CALIFORNIA
Founded in 1942, Coro's mission is to strengthen our democratic process of
self-governance by training individuals who, as citizens and leaders, will
act constructively and effectively to build up and improve their
communities and societies as a whole. One of six centers nationwide, Coro
Northern California (CNC) is a non-profit, non-partisan organization that
provides experiential and classroom training to groups of diverse leaders
at different stages of their professional development. Coro's programs put
participants on the path to self-discovery and continual learning. Using a
proprietary curriculum involving internships, group participation,
interviews, and seminars, Coro participants learn about leadership across
multiple sectors, industries, and issues.
CNC currently runs four programs: the Fellows Program in Public Affairs;
the Community Fellows Program; contract programs; and Exploring
Leadership. For more information, please see the CNC web site: http://www.coro.org/coro_centers/sf/sf.html
EXPLORING LEADERSHIP
Exploring Leadership was launched in 1998 to offer the Bay Area's diverse
young people an opportunity to change their lives and communities by
getting real-world exposure to the workplace, contemporary issues, and the
inner mechanisms and leaders of our democracy. The program brings youth
together to learn, create, and connect across differences in school,
neighborhood, background, and belief. There is no pre-requisite for
leadership experience or academic performance; the group is made up of
both proven and emerging young leaders.
Each year, Exploring Leadership runs one program in San Francisco and one
in the East Bay, with eighteen rising 11th and 12th graders in each group.
Students receive $1,000 for completing the program. The experience begins
with an intensive, full-time eight weeks in the summer and continues after
school in the fall semester. Participants identify an issue that affects
young people in their communities, which provides a theme through the
