Virtual Volunteering Opportunities

That's a great question. From my limited experience, I have found that
virtual volunteer programs are widely varied. I think that most online
tutor/mentor programs try to offer at least a basic understanding of the
challenges faced by the students.

The thing to remember about virtual volunteering is that it encompasses
mentoring and a whole host of other services. V.V. can serve as a way for
non-profits to get professional help with projects and management that
they just don't have time or expertise to get done on their own. In these
cases, the volunteer is usually given a packet of information on the NPO's
mission, resources and the specific challenges.

I agree that it is very important to educate volunteers about the people
who they are volunteering for. It is as the Aboriginal saying says, "If
you have come to help me, then you are wasting your time. But if you have
come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then come, let us walk
together."

Thanks
