<p>SCHOOLS AS CENTERS OF COMMUNITY: A NATIONAL SEARCH FOR EXCELLENCE

$5,000 Award for Excellence

KnowledgeWorks Foundation seeks schools that reflect the emerging trend of
designing schools that serve as centers of community.

As the country plans to spend billions on new school facilities, it is
critical to identify models of community-centered schools that can serve
as examples for future planning and design.

A panel of national experts, including former U.S. Secretary of Education,
Richard W. Riley, will choose schools that best meet standards of high
quality schools that serve as centers of community. The selected schools
will then be highlighted on the Foundation's website. One among these
schools will be chosen to receive a $5000 Award for Excellence.
