THIRD ANNUAL MEMBER MEETING
IN CELEBRATION OF SISTERHOOD AND THE FUTURE
Friday, May 21, 8:00 - 10:00 a.m.
At FleetBoston, 100 Federal Street, 2nd floor conference room
Near Boston T stops for South Station and Downtown Crossing
Purpose
At this working meeting we will celebrate the past and plan for the
future. We will discuss how girls, their adult advocates, and the
Coalition benefit from embracing diversity and working together across
differences.
Keynote by
Janie Ward, Ed.D.
Author of The Skin We're In: Teaching our Children to be Emotionally
Strong, Socially Smart, and Spiritually Connected, Dr. Ward will speak
about celebrating the ethnic/cultural identities of girls and their adult
advocates. Dr. Ward is an associate professor at Simmons College, where
she chairs the Africana Studies department. She is also codirector of
Project ASSERT (Assessing Strengths and Supporting Effective Resistance in
Teaching), a research and curriculum project focused on helping adults
teach youth how to identify, name, and resist harmful cultural
constructions and biases of gender, race, and class. She is a member of
the Girls' Coalition Leadership Council.

At this historic annual member meeting we will introduce several Coalition
initiatives:

our new membership drive
our in-depth evaluation
new Leadership Council officers and members
In striving to better serve girls and their adult advocates, we will also
solicit input from you, our Coalition members and constituents, about the
future of the Coalition and how we can continue to grow by embracing
diversity and responding to your needs. You will be asked to vote on
topics the Coalition should cover, offer suggestions on how to expand the
Coalition's breadth and depth, and reflect on the value of Coalition
participation.
