Do your state operate a Surplus site? In Louisiana we have a state
surplus facility that serves as a warehouse for equipment, furniture,
computers, all sorts of items purchased with state funds. There's even
been pianos, large commercial equipment, examine tables, law mowers,
sewing machines, overhead projectors, etc. Remember they fund
universities, hospitals, school, besides their offices.
Governmental entities have first options on everything. Then Nonprofits
select from a lot of things. Anyway, our state usually set aside the
computers (which are thousands) and donate them for educational purposes.
The other products are usually sold at a fraction of the cost. I equipped
an entire early childhood center for 65 with tables, chairs, cubbies,
(returned merchandise from other centers that were funded) just think
about it child-size chairs and tables for $2.00 and $5.00 each. In
addition to other items such as storage cabinets, kitchen equipment,
furniture, equipment for approximately $150. Check into it. It's
definitely worth your while. Good luck.
