For the fourth year in a row, youth from the Ascend youth program, a
partnership with DC Department of Employment Services and Hine Junior High
School, will exhibit technological excellence at the NBC4 Digital Edge
Expo.
In Booth 1029, Ascend youth will be demonstrating digital camera/photo
printing technology and Web development technology. The youth will be
presenting a comparative analysis of five different digital cameras that
are
used in the Ascend program and three different photo printers. The youth
will have recommendations for 'Digital Photography on a Budget'. The NBC4
Digital Edge Expo will be held at the Washington Convention Center on
September 18-19 from 9 am to 5. See below for links to additional
information.

The theme for our booth this year will be 'Using Digital Technology to
Enable All Youth to be Successful'. In realization of this theme, the
lead youth participants will be youth with learning disabilities. The
Ascend program has enabled youth with learning disabilities to be
successful. Three of our six national Web development contest winners were
youth with learning disabilities.

Ascend youth will be demonstrating digital photography technology at this
Expo with nationally known experts and leading technology companies, such
as Ritz Camera, Comcast, America Online, Hewlett-Packard, and Motorola.
This year's Expo will include participation from Corey Greenberg <http://www.nbc4.com/digitaledgeexpo/2419353/detail.htm > , the "Today" show's technology editor and Walt Mossberg <http://www.nbc4.com/digitaledgeexpo/2455823/detail.html> , technology columnist for the Wall Street Journal. We look forward to
our youth delivering their assessment and perspective on digital

The Ascend youth program is a partnership with the DC Department of
Employment Services and Hine Junior High School to provide services to
youth with 'multiple barriers to employment'. Youth are provided with
after-school/summer jobs where they are engaged in work-based and
project-based learning. Ascend's mission is "To operate youth =
development rograms and create new approaches, learning materials, and
strategies that enable youth, especially those at-risk, to become
successful and achieve greatness". Since the inception of the youth
program, 100% of youth participants have obtained work readiness and
occupational skills. In June 2003 and 2004, 100% of program youth
graduated or remained in school. In this same period, 75% of youth who
graduated enrolled in a college. All = of
our college enrollees are the first in their families to attend college.
