Hello, everyone.

My name is Haejung Chung, the Research Assistant whom Tony introduced to
you just before. I am very pleased to be one of the YouthLearn staff and
to be joining this discussion list. I look forward to sharing with you and
receiving valuable ideas for making youth education hopeful, pleasurable
and responsible.

As Tony mentioned in his note earlier today, I'm looking for ideas from
the list on the role that technology is playing in the growing afterschool
movement. Specifically, over the next month or so I'd like to collect
information about model programs and showcasing them via a new section on
our website. We'd like to highlight some of the unique strategies that
have made these programs successful, and hopefully articulate ways that
technology is helping afterschool programs increase student learning
outcomes.

This new section of the website will:

- provide practitioners with exemplary models and concrete examples of
technology integration in afterschool programs;
- identify ways that technology can help afterschool providers promote
student-centered learning and support academic achievement;
- offer a space where practitioners and other afterschool leaders can
share their own expertise, tips, tactics, and lessons learned;
- foster new linkages between the community technology movement,
afterschool and the broader youth development world.

If your program or one that you know of has demonstrated success at
harnessing technology afterschool, please contact me. We're especially
interested in identifying new programs supported through the Department of
Education's 21st Century Learning Center Program, and those that are
functioning within a school environment. We're also very interested in
models that demonstrate community-school partnerships.

I look forward to hearing from you. You can reach me via email (hchung at edc.org) or phone (617-618-2730). We can also chat through instant messaging:
please add me to your contact list (AOL, Yahoo, MSN) by using my email
address, hchung at edc.org.

Thank you very much. I look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,
Haejung Chung
