[YL] Getting City Leaders involved

YL Friends:

The Travis County Afterschool Network (TCAN) in Austin, Texas is really starting to get some momentum around engaging the Mayor and other city leaders into the afterschool issue, and we will be going to the Mayor's office soon with a specific ask.  We've bandied around some ideas, including:

*  Asking for city funding for afterschool 
* Promoting a card that kids enrolled in afterschool programs can use to get discounts at the movies, free city bus rides, and other perks

I know that Austin is not the first to come up with the idea for city-sponsored support of this important issues -- any best practices or past experiences I could draw on in our planning?  You guys are so helpful and creative -- I look forward to your responses!

By the way, thanks again for all the great ideas for the Beacon of Light awards -- so creative!
