Hello,

My name is Amy Cohen and I am the Student Voices Program Director for
NetDay, a national education technology non-profit organization. I'm
writing to share news of upcoming events that may be of interest to you
and students in your organization. As an organization with an interest in
student leadership and education, I am hoping that you will be interested
in announcing this information to your students in your own newsletters or
other communications. Please see our invitation at the end of this letter
to become an SVRC Friend.

UPCOMING FOCUS CHATS
About twice each month, the Student Voices Resource Center hosts online
chats between students and prominent individuals in the education
technology space. Please pass on this invitation to your students for this
great opportunity to share their ideas with each other and with our
special guest about technology and their education. (Students can
pre-register to attend the chats at http://www.NetDay.org/SVRC.)

Friday, April 29 – 3:30 pm Eastern Standard Time
Student Voices and the National School Boards Association
Your district’s school board makes important decisions about technology
policy and budgeting decisions. The National School Boards Association
represents school boards all around the country. How can students be
involved with school boards in technology decision making? Join this chat
to share your ideas and ask your questions.
 -- Guests: Anne Bryant and Joan Schmidt, National School Boards
Association

Friday, May 13 – 7:45 pm Eastern Standard Time
Share Your Ideas about Transforming Technologies
Dr. Milton Chen is executive director of the George Lucas Education
Foundation with a special interest in how digital technologies can
transform America's schools. Join this chat and share your ideas about how
you think your education can be changed or improved using technology.
Bring your ideas on the most interesting uses you've made of technology
and the Internet to aid your learning.
-- Guest: Dr. Milton Chen, George Lucas Education Foundation

Friday, May 20 – 3:30 pm Eastern Standard Time
“We need to listen to America’s students!”
In January, the Department of Education released a National Education
Technology Plan. The national plan was written with student input and with
students in mind. This is your chance to ask questions about the plan and
share your ideas with the national director of the Office of Education
Technology!
-- Guest: Susan Patrick, Director of the Office of Educational Technology

ABOUT THE STUDENT VOICES RESOURCE CENTER
NetDay is proud to announce the launch of its Student Voices Resource
Center (SVRC). The SVRC (www.NetDay.org/SVRC) is a comprehensive research
and collaboration space that provides resources to engage and involve
students in technology-related decision-making. Our aim is to connect
student voices with teachers, community members, government
representatives, businesses, and others involved with technology in K-12
schools.

The Student Voices Resource Center provides valuable resources and tools
including:
·         Step-by-step student-appropriate How-To guides for students
interested in technology decision-making at their schools;
· A directory of the best online resources, including current
research and news articles on learning and technology, youth-led research,
grants, national education technology events, and information from
organizations that support youth engagement;
· Best practices and real stories about what students are doing to
make a difference at their schools;
· A calendar of online chats with students and key individuals
from national education and technology arenas;
· And, coming soon—information for parents and educators on how to
understand and support students in their local school engagement efforts.

SVRC reinforces the critical importance of adding the voices of students
to the national dialogue around technology in education called for in the
recently released National Education Technology Plan, Towards a New Golden
Age in Education.

CALL FOR PARTICIPATION
We're always looking for students to join NetDay's Student Advisory
Council and students to participate in the growth of SVRC by submitting
their success stories and their ideas, needs, and desires related to
technology at their schools.
