[YL] Planning an after school program

Anna, 

Thanks for your immediate response.  We are located in Gary, IN, we are not located in a school.
There are some issues with the Gary School System students are performing below ISTEP test norms.  This is a test that suppose to measure the aptitude of students in their particular grade levels. 
Part of our problem is finding a grant writer. I will check with the after school alliance, etc.

Our funding has been successful because we measure our outcomes -- and in our case, we can prove that children and their families are flourishing because of Heart House.  As for funding ideas, check out afterschoolalliance.org and fdncenter.org.  You should be able to get funding for both the "arts" and the "youth" components of your program.  Where are you located?  If in a school, make sure you differentiate yourself as a separate program --some funders prefer NOT to give to public schools.  Corporations will sponsor programs only if you make a clear case how it will improve business for them. For those leads,  I suggest putting together sponsorship packages around each of your programs and offer a lot of bang for their buck.  Email me with more questions or follow-up questions.

Hi Anna,

I too am Founder of an After School Program, in Gary, IN.  However, the program is not flourishing the way yours appear to be. Funding, cooperation from city & school officials, are part of my problems. We chose to locate in an area where our services are needed, but the community is apathetic.
