About the Film: The Ripple Effect: Our Stories
The Ripple Effect: Our Stories documents the everyday experiences of girls and young women of color living in Washington, DC. Young women get behind the camera and let us look in on their world, telling us – in their own words – what it’s like to grow up in the District of Columbia. This powerful collection of stories highlights their struggles and triumphs while pointing to the need for greater community investment in the lives of girls and young women of color.
About Sister to Sister/Hermana a Hermana
Sister to Sister / Hermana a Hermana (STS/HAH) is an arts and leadership program that works with girls and young women of color, ages 9-21, in the Ward 1 neighborhoods of Washington, DC. STS/HAH recognizes that girls and young women need safe learning spaces where they can receive support and guidance, develop their skills, and build healthy relationships with other youth and adults. Through workshops and activities held in centers and schools, STS/HAH provides opportunities for girls and young women to become creative agents of change in their personal lives and in their community.

About the Latin American Folk Institute
The Latin American Folk Institute is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the art, music, and folklore of the Americas. LAFI builds community through arts education and affordable cultural programs, and partners with other cultural organizations and professional artists to provide affordable events, concerts and classes to all members of the community. Using the arts as a vehicle to inspire cross-cultural understanding, LAFI makes the rich cultural heritage of the Americas accessible to everyone via educational and cultural programs.
