There is a full-time VISTA position open this coming school year in 
Youth Development with Minneapolis Community Education.

A VISTA will map service and service learning success projects within 
Minneapolis Public Schools for teacher resources; create service and 
service learning web resources; work in a team on at least one hands-on 
school service project; and expand and build community partners and 
resources for school projects.

Skill areas and interests sought include Communications, Computers, 
Education, Outreach, Writing/Editing, and Youth Development.

The Youth Development mission within Minneapolis Community Education is 
to engage teachers and practitioners in empowering youth in supportive 
learning centers with community partners united in civic engagement. 
Youth Development is a collaborative learning process which develops 
youth voice and leadership through hands-on activities and community 
experiences. We offer staff and VISTA opportunities to engage students 
in service project planning and implementation; we support students in 
their innate decision making power to create their own projects and the 
satisfaction that comes with working with communities greater than 
ourselves; and we offer tangible resources on the web and in youth media 
with the newspaper Shine On:  Young Leaders Rising, a newspaper which 
highlights the words and activities of Minneapolis students.

This is a one year, full-time position beginning in August, 2006.
