ETR Associates, a private, non-profit, health education organization in Scotts Valley, CA, is seeking a qualified person to join its Research Department as a Project Coordinator. This person will oversee the day-to-day activities of Café Universo, a new after-school and summer program for middle school Latina girls in Watsonville, CA. They will also provide support for the Lead Educator, who will be implementing the program.
Café Universo is funded by the National Science Foundation through its ITEST program. It is designed to increase girls' interest, ability, and motivation to pursue science and information technology courses and careers. Café Universo activities will include IT instruction to teach girls how to design and program their own original computer games and a produce a multimedia 'digital documentary' about their games, an astrobiology curriculum, career identity exploration, field trips to local colleges, and parent and family involvement activities. The girls' computer games will focus on science, and will be posted online for other girls to play.
The Project Coordinator must have project management experience, knowledge of how to work with schools, and be comfortable with new technology. Masters or Bachelors degree in a science or IT field and bilingual in Spanish preferred.
Specific tasks:
* Work with school staff to schedule, prepare for, and implement the program.
* Supervise the Lead Educator
* Coordinate and implement program events (e.g., parent involvement events) and field trips (e.g., transportation, liability, etc).
* Coordinate materials development, including online and print-based instructional and training materials.
* Assist with student recruitment
* Assure quality control in program implementation across sites.
* Document project implementation.
* Serve as a back-up educator for other project educators if necessary.
* Act as liaison between program staff and industry partners.
* Support and assist with qualitative and quantitative data collection.
* Assist with coding of qualitative data.
* Create and manage simple databases for process evaluation (e.g., attendance data).
