Friends & Colleagues,

I¹m writing to share the news that as of next month, I¹ll be re-locating my
base of operation to Chicago. While it has been wonderful working with my
many colleagues here in our headquarters in Boston, this move will allow us
to develop new work and relationships in the Midwest and my old hometown.
As you may know, I first started working with young people in Chicago many
years ago and still have a great number of friends and contacts in the
region. The YouthLearn team will now be spread across three key cities
(Chicago, New York and Boston) and working collaboratively on both local and
national efforts. I¹ll be adding co-workers to the team in Chicago in the
coming weeks, laying the foundation of what we hope will be a much greater
EDC presence in the Midwest in the near future.

We believe that being more strategically located across the country is a
great way for us to expand our services, especially to the growing
afterschool and youth development world. We¹ll continue to work on ways
that educators can empower young people through the integration of
technology and media tools and the application of project-based learning
principles, providing program design consultation, professional development,
materials, and research and evaluation services. Our current work with our
many partners and sponsors will continue, including our involvement in the
Mott Foundation¹s Afterschool Academies, our technical assistance to the
National Science Foundation through their ITEST program, and our services to
Adobe Systems Incorporated in the roll-out of their international Adobe
Youth Voices initiative.

This year we¹re celebrating YouthLearn¹s fifth year as an initiative at EDC,
and in many ways we feel we¹re at a critical turning point in our work.
With digital media and communication tools so much more accessible to young
people and educators we¹ll be placing much greater focus on how best to use
these tools for learning, civic engagement and social inclusion. In that
regard, we¹re thrilled to be partners with Educational Video Center in New
York in the launch of the new Youth Media Learning Network, which will bring
the many lessons learned from the 30-year youth media tradition to a new
wave of educators across the country.

I will continue to be actively involved in providing workshops and
consultation and have a number of commitments here in Boston that will have
me returning several times a month throughout the year. Know that you can
always reach me through my EDC email (tstreit at edc.org) or the YouthLearn
main number (800.449.5525).

Best,

Tony
