Everyone at CTVN is excited to hear that our TV series, Hard Cover,
was voted Best Series on the Manhattan Neighborhood Network's Youth

Programming Coordinator Maximiliano Benitez writes:

"New York City teens, your peers and fans, watched a selection of
excerpts of high-quality youth produced media and chose Hard Cover as
the series they found most engaging. MNN Youth Channel would like to
thank you for so many years of diligent work and supplying us with
thought provoking, first-rate productions. The work you do is
inspirational and important to our viewers."

Community TV Network has partnered with the Youth Channel for three
years, airing Hard Cover on a weekly basis. The channel reaches
estimated audiences of 9 million in New York City. Congratulations to

Hard Cover Programs Start Off Strong This Spring
**********************************************************************
Hard Cover programs are off to a great start at CTVN for the new year!
Here's a breakdown of what's going on:

Starting in February and lasting until April, CTVN hosts two
afterschool programs - one at Roosevelt High School, Chicago Public
School, and one at CTVN's Youth Media Center through Chicago's youth
organization, After School Matters. The programs offer participating
youth stipends and a chance to exhibit their work at a downtown
screening. The Youth Media Center also hosts a drop-in program where
youth can come in anytime and work on projects, go online, and receive
guidance from staff. The Youth Outreach Campaign has five students
from Juarez High School working on a history video that will be
entered into a city-wide history fair. Interns from Young Women's
Leadership Charter School are working on a PSA about misogynistic
images in hip-hop and rap music videos. Starting in April, Hard Cover
will also be hosting another group of interns from ACT Charter School
with 4-5 participants. The SOAR program is off and running at
Washington Park and Maywood Park, teaching video to foster kids in
DCFS.

This February, an astounding 41 young people participated in Hard
Cover programs just at the Youth Media Center! This includes 25 ASM
apprentices, two Illinois Arts Council Interns, two Chicago Commons
Interns, and many drop-in youth and volunteers. 38 of these young
people are from Chicago Public Schools. Many of the apprentices are
returning youth, producing work on a whole new level of production
quality. (Check it out by clicking the link below!)

Whitney Smith, currently an Advanced Producer and an Illinois Arts
Council Intern, has been accepted to California Institute of the Arts
to study film. She also won a $5,000 scholarship from the Chicago Park
District. Whitney and Derell Bonner, another IAC Intern, are waiting
to hear if they won a coveted spot in the Emma Bowen Foundation
program to receive multi-year internships with major network
companies, such as ABC, Fox, NBC, and Time Warner Cable. Look out for
more exciting news from our youth participants...
