Hello and thanks for reading this edition of Youthflick from Community
TV Network!
We are happy to report that our anniversary party for Hard Cover was a
success! Our keynote speaker at the event, Dawn Turner Trice, wrote an
article on our organization that is in the April 30 issue of the
Chicago Tribune. We also recently found out that "Her Right to Say
No," a public service announcement made last fall, was accepted into
the Los Angeles Film Festival. Jonathan Escobar, one of its youth
producers, was featured in the Chicago Booster newspaper. Check out
the details below.

Dawn Turner Trice's article on Community TV Network, "Videos give
teens means of expression," was published on Monday, April 30 in the
Chicago Tribune. Her article focuses on the positive effects of teens
creating solution-oriented media, stating "they're learning how to
interpret their world via film and think critically about issues
affecting their communities [...] these young people at 'Hard Cover'
are consistently creating videos that are thoughtful and insightful."

Hard Cover's 20th Anniversary Party
**********************************************************************
On Friday, April 27, Community TV Network held its 20th anniversary
event for Hard Cover at its Youth Media Center at the intersection of
the Humboldt Park, Logan Square, and West Town communities. The
celebration honored 20 historic years of Hard Cover, the afterschool
program and TV show that broadcasts the voices of Chicago's low-income
minority youth across the country.
Among those in attendance were Kevin Doyle, the first Hard Cover
coordinator, who came all the way from Kentucky for the event, Gordon
Quinn of Kartemquin Films and member of CTVN's advisory board, and
Tony Sarabia of Chicago Public Radio, the event's emcee. Keynote
speaker Dawn Turner Trice of the Chicago Tribune recalled her own
experiences discovering her love of storytelling and how vital it is
for all youth to express themselves. The reel screened at the event
showed different moments in Hard Cover's history, including a youth's
interview with Rosa Parks and Harold Washington's mayoral run. Thanks
to local Chicago restaurants, we had plenty of food and drinks to go
around!
