T-Mobile Huddle Up Survey
"The first-ever national T-Mobile Huddle Up Afterschool Survey finds that 90 percent of parents say having a safe, positive place for their child after school will keep their child safe and away from criminal activity. The national study of 603 parents, launched in partnership with the Afterschool Alliance, finds that nearly one in four parents would be willing to start paying to keep their afterschool programs open, and some parents who already pay are willing to spend more. Nearly half of parents say they would rally to encourage federal, state and local officials to invest in safe, positive afterschool places."

The Untapped Power of Summer to Advance Student Achievement
"Now that the fall school year is underway, many students are catching up from what is now defined as 'summer learning loss.' A report by Dr. Beth M. Miller, released by the Nellie Mae Education Foundation, reveals that summer enrichment opportunities have a much more profound impact than previously believed on the academic achievement of young people. The Learning Season: The Untapped Power of Summer to Advance Student Achievement reports that children experience learning loss over the summer months, and these losses are much greater for children from low-income families than they are for other children."

YouthLearn's Basic Tips for Teaching Drawing
Just like writing, drawing is a tool for expression, and we owe it to kids to help them become better at it. By teaching drawing you'll also build your own artistic confidence. Teaching drawing has another advantage: Doing it the right way helps kids learn about math, symmetry and geometry in a conceptual way and without the academic words. We don't mean just focusing on computer drawing, either. Focus on and practice drawing in the real world long before you get to the computers. The secret to drawing is to overcome a natural inclination that most people have to draw the whole object they see. If we train ourselves to observe carefully, however, we see that a few basic shapes called compositional forms make up every object in the world.
